The Unexpected Pair; The Extraordinary Proposal

Sitting on his chair at his table, while scrolling through 9gag, he had nothing to do in class as he had completed his work. He was alone. He had no friends. All his friends were either in different colleges or in a different class. He felt so alone that all he wanted was just someone to talk to. He decided that he would call Kon and ask him whether would he like to have lunch. He lifted up his phone to level it with his eyes and his background appeared blur to him as his eyes concentrated on his phone to dial Kon's number. Then, his eyes moved, meeting with a girl wearing a floral romper. He strained, squinted and forced his eyes to get a glimpse of her name tag. His eyes met with hers, his heart pounding as he swallowed his saliva. He thought... "She's beautiful..." He knew he couldn't proceed her with any ordinary means. In fact, he just couldn't bring himself to even introduce himself to her. He knew he had no chance with her because he was just an ordinary guy. He plays games, watches football and only once in a while would he play football. He had no special achievements made through studies nor did he have any in the field of sports. Everyone else in the class was good in something. They either had looks, brains, brawns or a special achievement while he had nothing. In that instance, he immediately gave up and started browsing through 9gag again on his phone. He then decided to just give Kon a call to see whether was in the area and whether would he like to have lunch with him. "Hey Kon, do you wanna have lunch? I am kinda... Lonely!" as he let out a laughter that was sarcastic but one that was not good enough to fool Kon. Kon knew how he was feeling so he accepted his request. During the time when Rick was on the phone with Kon, he didn't know what was going on. Something caught her eye. Samantha noticed a boy dressed in a black Polo t-shirt and a green short pants. She sat in the corner of the table in front of the class, looking back at Rick and immediately wanted to know who he was and what was his name.

5 mins later

The teacher enters the class and the students immediately stopped their chit chatter and looked at the teacher. Rick was relieved that she didn't look fierce and strict but he knew he still had to behave or he would get in trouble but that wasn't bothering him at all. Seated right in front of him was Samantha and even though he told himself that he would give up on her, he still wanted to find out more about her but he just couldn't bring himself to do it so he tried to look away. He fails every time. He notices her hair which was as black as night, her body that could make any guy go crazy and the way she smiles. Even though he only saw her not more than 10 minutes ago, he noticed every aspect of her. Samantha could sense that someone was looking at her but she did not want to look back. Fearing that it was Rick. The teacher then asked everyone to introduce themselves to the class. Rick hated this part the most in all his classes. The introduction part. That is because it would involve him standing up, talking in front of everyone and even telling his name. He did not want to be noticed, didn't want his notoriety to rise up, didn't want to be known as he feared for what may happened but this time, it was different. He was looking forward to the introduction part. He wanted to know who she was, what was her name and everything about her. "Hi everyone!" with a cheerful smile she had, "I am Samantha Lee! Nice to meet you all but please.... Do Not Piss Me Off." as she said with a high pitched cute voice. Though everyone knew she wasn't kidding about the pissing off part, they all played along and laughed. 10 more other people introduced themselves and when it was his turn, he decided to boost his confidence in himself so that he would look good in front of her instead of his usual "Umm... Hi... I'm Rick... Nothing special about me... Umm... Yeah..." routine. He got up.. "Hi everyone! *ahem.. I'm Rick and it is really really really nice to meet you all!" as he looked at Samantha with blood rushing up to his head and he did this same routine a few times but only when Samantha was in the same classes as him.

2 hours later

He went down to Old Town White Coffee to have lunch with Kon. He went inside and looked for Kon but he was nowhere to be found which means he hasn't reached yet. He took a seat which was meant for two and let out a really big sigh of relief. He never ever introduced himself like that before and for once, he felt good. Out of nowhere, a hand patter his right shoulder and he turned around to only notice that it was Kon. "What's up with the big 'SIGH..' man?!" and they clapped their hands together. Kon saw something different in him. He noticed that there was fire in his eyes and determination and immediately, he knew what was going on. "So??? Aren't you going to tell me?" as he asked Rick but Rick had no idea what was he talking about. "The girl dude. You like someone don't you?" but Rick kept on insisting that he didn't. Suddenly, through the entrance of Old Town White Coffee, a girl dressed in a floral romper walked in. Rick noticed it and he was shocked but at the same time, he was really happy to see her. Kon straight away sensed it and quickly looked the direction that Rick was looking at. Kon then looked back at Rick.. "Dude.. You like Samantha?" with a huge smile on his face. "Wait.. HOW DO YOU KNOW HER NAME!?" as Rick was really surprised but his question and it caught him off guard. "She's Sally's best friend dude. I've met her before in Starbucks." and Rick kept on persuading him to introduce him to her. Samantha noticed Kon and Kon waved and smiled at her! Kon immediately schemed out his plan and looked at Rick and said "NO. You will go and introduce yourself to her. I ain't helping you with this one. Good luck!" as he got up and pushed Rick off his chair. Samantha who noticed what was going on started to blush but smiled as she turned away to pretend like she didn't notice anything. Rick was persistent in following Kon's plan but in the end, he gave up and gave it a go. He walked up to her with this hands in his pocket, trying to play it cool and said "Hi.. I am Rick. I'm in the same Creative Thinking class as you? Not sure if you would ever notice me." Samantha was trying to constrain her smile but she let it show a little. "Yeah. I've seen you around." as she let out a laugh. Rick wanted to tell her that he was best friends with Kon but as he turned around to point out where Kon was, he had vanished. "Kon.. You bastard!" as he shouted that in his mind. It echoed through his mind. Instead of letting him go away, Samantha asked him to take a seat and they immediately started talking. They laughed, they talked and they shared a lot. Suddenly, his phone rang and it was a message from Kon and it said "You'll thank me later:)" and he kept his phone back in to his pocket.

2 weeks later

Sally picked up her phone "SALLY.. Where are you? Umm.. Are you nearby college? Umm... HELP ME!!!!!" as she screamed for help. Sally then looked at Kon and was really worried and they quickly drove off to where Samantha was. On the way there, Kon also noticed that when Samantha was asking for help, he could hear Rick in the background. They drove as fast as they could.

A few minutes later

"LET ME OUT OF THE CAR! I WANNA GO HOME!" "NO. YOU ANSWER MY QUESTION FIRST!" "WHY DO I HAVE TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION!?" "BECAUSE I WANNA KNOW!" "WHAT DO YOU WANNA KNOW!?" "WILL YOU BE MY GIRLFRIEND!?..."  and there was silence in the car for a few seconds. "I DON'T KNOW! I DON'T WANNA ANSWER YOU NOW!" "I AM NOT LETTING YOU OUT OF THE CAR UNTIL YOU ANSWER ME!" "IF YOU REALLY WANT ME TO ANWER YOU, WHY CAN'T YOU DO THIS WITH A LITTLE MORE ROMANCE!?" "FINE!". Rick got out of the car and he went to the side of the car. "GET OUT HERE!" as he still shouted at her. Samantha got out of the car and went in front of Rick. "WHAT!?" "SAMANTHA! I'VE LIKED YOU FOR A LONG TIME! SCREW THIS! I THINK I LOVE YOU! PLEASE LET ME BE THAT IDIOT WHO WILL BE BESIDE YOU FROM NOW TILL FOREVER! PLEASE!?" but Samantha's reply wasn't something Rick expected. "Mom... I've found him. The person I'll madly fall in love with..." as tears streamed down her face... "Yes...." Rick was confused for awhile. "What..?"  "YES LA! I SAID YES LA YORH!" Rick smiled for the longest period of time.

10 minutes later\

"What's going ON!?" as Kon and Sally rushed out of the car to assist Samantha in what ever trouble Samantha and Rick got themselves in to. Suddenly, Sally screamed out of excitement and ran back to Kon, hitting him on the chest. "LOOK!!!!!!!!" as she pointed at Samantha and Rick. Kon's jaw dropped and he shouted "HOLY CRAP!". An image and a moment that was snapped, captured and stored in both their brains. An image.. Of Samantha and Rick holding hands.

The Unexpected Pair; The One Who Longs

Past

Ever since her mother passed away, it felt like her whole world was falling apart. Everywhere she went, there was a memory of her mother and her. Walking pass by the park she used to exercise in, a memory of her mother carrying her when she was a toddler. Walking pass by the coffee shop she used to eat in, a memory of her mother feeding her. Walking pass by her mother's room, a memory of her mother loving her. She sat down alone at home, always thinking about her mother, about how much she missed her and also, about how much she loved her. She cried. She cried every single night where the tears could fill an ocean or form a river moving drastically fast. She prayed to God, with such anger and sadness.. "I WANT MY MOM BACK!!!!" but she knew she could never get her back. She was no longer the same in school. She felt so alone. She longed for someone. She longed for someone who could could fill that gap for her. She didn't want to feel alone anymore.

She was popular in school. She was known for her grades, for her looks and for her athletic abilities. She could run a 100m in 9seconds, she could get straight A's for her results and many guys were chasing after her. Did she feel she accomplished alot? Yes, she did but did she really care about it? She walked home alone again, without anyone beside her and praying to God once again, pleading to give her back her mother. As she reached home, she went to feed her two pure breed rabbits, Lucy and Sabby. She hugged them and kissed their head. They were the two pets that were given to her by her mother not long before she passed. Samantha treasured them. She took very good care of them and made sure they felt loved like how she felt the love given to her by her mother. She brought them to her room and she dropped her bag on the floor, took off her clothes and went in to the bathroom. Turning on the shower tap and she allowed herself to drown her misery and sorrow in the hot water falling on top of her head. She thought about her school, her friends and her mother. As she turned off the tap, she wiped her hair with her brown towel and put on her favourite pyjamas. She lied her head on top of her white pillow and covered herself with her blanket. It was warm. This warmth brought back memories of her mother embracing her daughter so tightly in her arms as it felt like she was never going to let go off her mother. Then she remembered something her mother said to her when she was young. "Samantha, you know I love you? I love you so much and you're my whole world. I am so fortunate to have a daughter like you. I will never ever leave you, my dearest daughter. Samantha Lee, I'll always be here for you okay?". Samantha, whom at that time was very small and did not understand what her mother was saying and all she could do was smile, nod her head and reply "I love you, mommy!". Samantha's mother smiled and hugged her once again with tears streaming down her face. "Thank you God for making this life, a memorable one. You have blessed me with this wonderful gift and now I'm ready to come back to You."

She remembered those words "...I will never ever leave you..." and she broke into tears. She screamed and her two siblings came rushing into the room, only to see what was going on. They went to restrain her and they heard the words that were coming out of her mouth. "YOU SAID YOU WOULD NEVER LEAVE ME! YOU SAID YOU WOULD NEVER GO! MOM, COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK!" and it made their siblings cry at the same time. At that time, for the very first time, she realized that she wasn't the only one who was suffering, Her brother, her sister and her father were all suffering too. She realized they all missed their mother and she cried along with them. After what felt like hours, she fell into a deep sleep. "Samantha...? Samantha...? Samantha..?". Someone was calling for her name. She woke up on green grass that was so clean and in front of her was an ocean so blue that it shocked her. For awhile, she was wondering where was she. She remembers falling asleep but now she is somewhere not known to her. As she was looking around, something caught her eye. A woman dressed in white and looking at her. Samantha could not believe her eyes. She covered her mouth with her right hand and tears started streaming down her face. Her left hand grasped the grass and she dashed towards her. She jumped to her with open arms and hugged her so tight. "MOM! MOM! MOM!!!!!!!!" as she screamed it out loud. Her mother hugged her gently and looked at her in the eyes. She smiled, " You've grown up. You're so pretty now. Have you found anyone you have fallen madly in love with?" as she laughed. Samantha who could not respond and just rubbed her face against her mother's chest. "Mom... I've missed you... I've missed you so much..." She realized that all these was just a dream but it felt so real to her. The feeling of being hugged by her mother again, the familiar warmth from her mother's body and the gentle voice that came from her mother. "I've missed you too Samantha but Samantha, you must not be this weak. I told you before didn't I? I will always be with you. Maybe not physically but..." as she raised her index finger and pointed it to her heart "...I will always be in here. In your heart. I love you Samantha!" as she kissed Samantha's forehead and she waved goodbye to her daughter as she started to drift further away from Samantha. "DON'T GO! MOM!!!!!! MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" as she screamed. She woke up, tearing but this time, it wasn't out of sadness. "Mom... I'll do my best... I love you mom..." and she grabbed her chest as she could still feel her mother's warmth.

Present

A few days after Rick confessed to her, she decided to give this relationship a try. For some reason, she saw something different in Rick than the other guys. She saw something special in him that she did not see in other guys. She realized that he was special to her in many ways but she did not know what. One night, Rick decided to ask her to be his girlfriend. Shocked by his proposal, she couldn't answer straight away. "ANSWER ME NOW!" as Rick was so nervous and wanted to know as soon as possible but Samatha didn't wanna answer right away. Rick who was very persistent got out of the car, got on his knees under a lamp post and said with a little more romance and politeness, "Samantha, I've liked you for a long time. Screw this! I love you! Please.. Please let me be that idiot who will be beside you from now till forever! Please!" as Rick clenched his left hand which was behind his back. Samantha's reply, wasn't something he expected but something which made him even more curious, "Mom... I've found him. The person I'll madly fall in love with..." as tears streamed down her face... "Yes...."
